Kettle Creek Battlefield
Some of the most beautiful parts of Washington tell the stories of our country’s past. Kettle Creek Battlefield is one of the many places in Washington, Georgia, that you can get a taste of history. This particular battlefield was the site for a minor encounter that happened during the Revolutionary War. The location itself offers various trails for guests to walk on as they tour the historic site as well as a couple of different monuments that tell the story of the battle that took place there.
Callaway Plantation
Another piece of history that you can indulge in while visiting Washington is the Callaway Plantation. This is an open-air museum that features several historic houses and a handful of other structures. Once a working plantation owned by the Callaway family, the museum contains the main houses that were donated by the family. After a while, additional buildings from the same time period were moved to the site. The plantation as a whole is 3,000 acres in size, but the museum piece of the plantations totals in 56 acres. If you want to take a step back in time, you absolutely need to visit the Callaway Plantation.
Washington Historical Museum
As you may have picked up on, there is a ton of history here in Washington, Georgia. The Washington Historical Museum has countless artifacts that represent over 200 years worth of history in Washington and Wilkes County. The house itself was built in 1835 and features a handful of rooms that are decorated to match the century that the house was built in. The authentic decorations of the house make it a fun and exciting stop to make while visiting Washington.
